Thriller ‘OBSESSED’ Tops the Box Office

Obsessed, the movie starring Idris Elba, Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter won the weekend domestic box office to the tune of $28.5 million. Not bad in a weakened economy. The movie cost about $20 million to make with much lower opening weekend expectations.
Obsessed beat out three other new releases like “Fighting,” starring Channing Tatum as a street-brawler, opened at No. 3 with $11.4 million, just behind Zac Efron’s “17 Again” now it its second week. It earned $11.7 million. “The Soloist,” a drama starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey, Jr., finished at No. 4, pulling in a disappointing $9.7 million. With two marquee stars, the film was expected to do much better, but may be feeling a little backlash from Foxx’s Miley Cyrus radio commentary incident. The Disney documentary “Earth” at No. 5 with $8.6 million, marking the best opening ever for a film about nature.
ABOUT OBSESSED: Derek Charles (Idris Elba), a successful asset manager who has just received a huge promotion, is blissfully happy in his career and in his marriage to the beautiful Beth (Beyonce). But when Lisa (Ali Larter), a temp worker, starts stalking Derek, everything he’s worked so hard for, are placed in jeopardy.
